The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) proudly celebrates its continued dominance as Quebec’s leader in graduation success, surpassing both the public and private sectors. According to the latest data from the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec, the EMSB achieved an impressive 93.2 percent graduation rate for the 2023–2024 academic year, solidifying its position as the top-performing school board in the province.
The English Montreal School Board has announced that Preschool and Kindergarten Registration Week for the 2026-2027 academic year will take place from Monday, February 2 to Friday, February 6. If one child from a family is already enrolled in a particular school, a sibling registration period will take place a week earlier.
In order to qualify for transportation, families must choose the EMSB elementary school nearest to their residence offering the French program of their choice.
For Preschool and Kindergarten, schools will offer flexible registration procedures:
Virtual Queue opens on January 26, 2026 at 7 a.m. Complete an online form to secure your spot on a numbered list. Schools will confirm appointments on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Online Appointment Booking. Schedule an in-person visit to bring your documents at a time that works for you.
Traditional Registration. Visit the school’s website for details on whether they are handling registration by walk-in, phone appointment or another method.

Procedures to Follow
All pupils registering for the first time are required to provide a birth certificate and vaccination records to the school the child will be attending. Parents will be asked to fill out forms which will allow the school to apply for the certificate of eligibility for English schooling. Under the Charter of the French Language, a certificate of eligibility is generally granted to children who did the majority of their elementary or secondary studies in English in Canada; whose mother or father did the majority of his/her elementary studies in English in Canada; or whose brother or sister did the majority of his/her elementary or secondary studies in English in Canada. As a result of language legislation, this criteria excludes studies completed in the Quebec Private School system.

EMSB kicks off Black History Month & Hooked On School Week by honouring the late Dr. Horace I. Goddar

The English Montreal School Board is marking Black History Month with programming across the network. On Thursday, February 6 the EMSB held its formal kickoff at Parkdale Elementary School in St. Laurent in dedication to the late Dr. Horace I. Goddard, a former school teacher, principal and head office administrator and a leader in the Black community. This event also recognized Hooked on Schools Days (Journées de la perseverance scolaire), highlighting the value of staying in school and encouraging academic success. On hand was Réseau Réussite Montréal Executive Director Andrée Mayer-Périard.

Hello Edward Murphy families and welcome to the 2025 - 2026 school year.
On behalf of the entire school team, we are looking forward to welcoming the students in Grades 1 through 6 back to school on Tuesday, September 2 . We are excited to begin a new year full of learning nd and growing. EMS families will receive a monthly calendar and newsletter from the school via email using the School Messenger platform. Emails will be sent to the emails provided when students were registered. Please ensure you check your email regularly to receive communication from the school. Any memo requiring a repsonse from parents will be sent via hard copy in your child’s Communication Folder.

Online K4 & K5 (Pre-School and Kindergarten) Request for Registration Appointment 2025-2026
We are thrilled to hear that you have selected Edward Murphy as your child(ren)’s elementary school. Please book an appointment using our online reservation system through the link below.
The link to the online form will be activated on January 27 at 7:00 AM. Completing the form will take approximately 5-10 minutes. This form allows parents to request a registration appointment for Pre-School and Kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year.

Food Drive
It is that time of the year when we begin collecting non-perishable food items and other small household items which will be donated to St. Brendan’s parish. The items will then be redistributed to various families within our community. Students can bring items to their Homeroom teacher. The last day for donations is Tuesday, December 10th. We thank you in advance for your generosity.
Lost & Found / Labelling ItemsOur
ItemsOur Lost & Found bin is once again overflowing with items. If your child is missing an articleof clothing, please encourage them to visit the Lost and Found bin. Also, please note that anylabelled item is returned to the student therefore we ask all parents/guardians to ensure allitems are appropriately labelled.
Cold Weather Wear
WearWith the arrival of cold weather, students must be appropriately dressed with a coat/jacket,hat, scarf/cache cou, and gloves. If your child is coming to school in boots, they must have apair of indoor shoes to change into. Please note that boots are mandatory with the arrival ofsnow. Also, Edward Murphy sweaters are the only sweater permitted in class.

Birthday Celebrations
CelebrationsMoving forward, parents are advised that there will be no birthday celebrations in class.
Start of Day
Parents are reminded that our school day begins at 7:55 at the first bell. Students areexpected to be lined up in the schoolyard at that time. Entry begins at 8:00. Any studentarriving after 8AM is considered late and must come via the Main Office. It is important forstudents to arrive at the scheduled time to avoid disruption to their day and the loss oflearning time.

DismissalsAny change in dismissal is to be reported before 1pm. If Ms. Dolores is on lunch, please leavea message on the voicemail. Thank you for your cooperation.

All our classes begin Thursday, August 29th at 7: 55a.m and end at 14:40 (Kindergarten and WINGS classes will follow a different schedule the first two days). I look forward to a successful school reopening and have full confidence in the dedication of our teachers and staff to make it another great school year.

Someone from the school will call you soon to validate your information and provide further information on the registration process. Appointments will be given in the order in which the registrations are received.
